Hauflins are known in the Realms by various names, such as halflings, hobbys, spits and chunks (the latter two are commonly meant as insults). Hauflins are identical to humans in nearly every way except one, their diminutive size. They are one of the smallest races as compared to other humanoids.
Hauflin are the offspring of a Human and Dwarf parent. A child from these two particular races will always be a Hauflin. However, Hauflin themselves may also have children. Those born to two Hauflin parents are considered to be “pure” blooded and this often plays a major role in the Hauflin aristocracy.
Hauflins can be found in multiracial settlements. However, the majority of Hauflin found here will be Outcasts or have been banished from other Hauflin communities. They often become vagrants and beggars and the targets of other vagrants.
Because of the danger in the multiracial settlements, Hauflin often form their own all-Hauflin settlements known as “Hobbys”. These can be found throughout the Realm, often not too far from the multiracial settlements they avoid. Sometimes they can be well camouflaged, but they can be found if one goes looking. They’re normally formed in obscure areas, away from major routes and in easily defended locations.
Along with the Hobbies, there also are two Hauflin nation-states that have a population that’s nearly entirely Hauflin, the Hauflin Freehold and Kinst. These are happily independent of other nations, and rarely attempt to contact others.
