Elves are also known in the Realms by various other names, such as tree folk, ears, kis, and carns (the latter is a common insult). Elves are Intelligent, slender-framed humanoids with keen senses and naturally agile. They also have one of the most noticeable pointed ears of all the races with this trait. The Elf is one of the Sylvan, a group of humanoid races created to protect areas of the Mortal world. Elves were originally created by the Goddess Resive to be wardens of the animals and woodlands. Because of this, Elves are closely related to the Nymphs. However, many generations ago the tribes of Elves began to split. Those elves committed to honoring Resive’s charge and those that grew restless and wished to explore the world.
Elves began leaving the deep forest, interacting with other races and adopting their customs. Eventually, these ‘wayward’ elves forged kingdoms (known as a Promise) of their own. All elves in the Lands of Sera are descended from one of these wayward Elven tribes, Loran, Erisan, Herin or Moorish. Elves tend to be racially biased, nearly always favoring an Elf over any other Race. But, this normally doesn’t manifest into overt prejudice or discrimination. However, the Loran and Moorish Elves are known for their hatred for non-elven Races, though they tend to dislike anyone, not in their tribe, other Elven tribes included.
The Elves that remained in the deep forest, to fulfill Resive’s charge, live in small settlements known as Sacred Groves. Some of these settlements are shared with the Nymph, while others are entirely Elf or Nymph. All of them are guarded by Elemental Wardens or Eternals and hidden from the outside world. It’s very common for elves near the end of their life to seek out these Sacred Groves to regain their lost connection to Resive before they die. They often enlist the aid of newly cast Wild Nymphs to guide their way back to a Sacred Grove.
Though it’s common to encounter Elves throughout the Realms, most elves do not live in multiracial settlements. If one is seen there it’s generally because they’re passing through. They prefer to stay in small settlements in wooded or rural areas.
