DWARF

 

Dwarves are slightly shorter than humans and very similar in appearance. Their body shape is distinctly broad and stocky. This shape gives them a particular gait when they walk making them easily recognized amongst the other races. Of all the humanoid races, Dwarfs and Humans have the friendliest relationship. They share many of the same cultural traits and customs. This is primarily due to their unity during the Age of Beasts. Both groups lived near one another in the mountainous center of Sera during the Age of Monsters. For hundreds of years, they fought to survive. After the Cataclysm of Water brought doom to the Beasts, the humans returned to the coastal regions and plains but the majority of Dwarves chose to remain in the mountainous regions.

Dwarves have significant populations living in the multiracial towns and cities throughout the realms. However, there are a great many independent Dwarven settlements, as well as the main Dwarven Kingdoms of Norda, Iron Vale, Sudnir Freehold, Mountain Vale, and Morning Vale.

Once upon a time, all Dwarves were united under Moorsoknir, the first and only King of all Dwarves. His reign lasted, with the help of the God Rjuntil, far longer than any normal lifespan. But Moorsoknir died before he could name an heir to his throne. His four sons, Nordnir, Sudnir, Austnir, and Vestnir, argued and fought bitterly over the throne. Nearly the entire race was lost because of the civil war that raged. Finally, the four sons, once again with help from Rjuntil, agreed to end the fighting. They each chose a point on the map and separated, leading their remaining followers to form the four Great Dwarven Houses. Every Dwarf that exists is descended and a member (tacitly) of one of the four houses, The Nordnir, Sudnir, Austnir and Vestnir. Although not directly hostile, members of differing Dwarven houses are often a source of tension. Only the Nordir and Sudnir Dwarves remain in the Lands of Sera, Austnir and Vestnir live across the sea.
